RE: Donation
Camp Joy was established in 2012 to meet the need for residential care of substance abusers and high risks individuals (gangsters) from the Cape Flats region of Cape Town.
The project is an extension of the First Community Resource Centre in Hanover Park, a non-profit company which also houses the CEASEFIRE program. CEASEFIRE is a gang violence intervention program from whom we draw a number of participants.
Camp Joy offers a six-week in-house programme, as well as an on-going live-work programme for the recovered participants who do not have suitable accommodation to return to.
While the organization has very distinctive Christian roots, all participants are welcomed irrespective of religion, racial or cultural creeds.
Apart from the daily life and job readiness classes, one-on-one counselling and group therapy is provided.
Extra mural activities include gardening, building maintenance and exercise classes.
Funding comes mostly from fund raising events by the local church congregation in Hanover Park, and occasionally from private donations.
We also rely on volunteers to add skills and value to our services.
We will appreciate any donation that would assist us in our attempts to recover our young men and women.

Pastor Engel, I am in awe of what your organization is doing. I have just watched the BBC Documentary entitled “Inside Cape Town’s Gang Wars: Life, Death, and Survival in the Cape Flats.”
I grew up in Pretoria during apartheid and have lived in Reno, Nevada, USA for decades now. My family lives in Cape Town. When I recently retired a great friend asked me the following question: “So Andre, physical therapy has been good to you, right? How are you going to give back?”
Well I think I have found a way to give back. Camp Joy!
I will be in touch as I have ideas I need to think about.
With gratitude,
Andre Meintjes
